By hand
Time to get your hands dirty! Eliminate any water that is present or allow as much water to drain out as you can. Once the drain is unfastened, reach inside with gloves, and remove as much obstruction as possible. If you are unsuccessful, you’ll need to attempt another approach.
Boiling water
Boiling water can help dissolve build-up, such as soap scum. Pour the water down the drain, then follow immediately with another liter. If the boiling water doesn’t work on the clog, you’ll see the water start to pool around your shower drain.
Drain snake
When the drain snake is inserted into the drainpipe, it comes into contact with the obstruction or clog and clears it.
The snake can be manually inserted into a drainpipe, then uncoiled by turning the handle. The snake travels deeper into the drain as it straightens until the auger breaks apart the clog as it passes through it.
Plunger
Make sure the water sitting in your shower or tub has been drained or removed before using your plunger. Next, unscrew the drain, and use a wet towel to cover the overflow hole—this aids in concentrating the plunger’s force on the drain.
Just enough water should be added to the shower to cover the bottom of the plunger. This helps with suction. To clear the obstruction:
Vinegar mixture
Chemicals may be harsh on your pipes if you use them often. Instead use a vinegar and baking soda mixture as a safer alternative. Pour a cup of baking soda followed by one cup of vinegar down your drain. After, pour boiling water down the drain to flush out the mixture and clog.
