Be Green and Save Money

The month of April brings the annual Earth Day celebration – April 22 – and in the desert southwest, it also brings rising temperatures. This year, you can mark Earth Day by becoming more environmentally-friendly, while also saving money.

According to energystar.gov, as much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. The good news is that there are simple steps you can take to reduce your home energy consumption that will also result in decreased energy bills this summer.

Replace the AC system filter regularly: It’s recommended that disposable filters be replaced each month, especially in summer when the system is in use the most. A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you cool, wasting energy and money. Regular replacement is also important because a dirty filter allows dust and dirt to build up in the system, which can lead to expensive maintenance.

Call the pros for regular maintenance: Having regular maintenance done on your air conditioning system can improve the system’s efficiency and help keep you cool. Chas Roberts Air Conditioning & Plumbing offers the Comfort Assurance Plan (CAP) maintenance agreement, which provides two annual check-ups by one of our Phoenix AC contractors of your cooling and heating system each year, in addition to receiving priority service, discounts on Phoenix AC repairs and the peace of mind that the system is running efficiently.

Invest in a programmable thermostat: According to energystar.gov, homeowners can save about $180 a year in energy costs by installing a programmable thermostat and properly setting and maintaining the settings. A programmable thermostat will automatically reduce the air conditioning system’s temperature when you are not at home, saving energy and money.

Consider replacing the system with a more energy-efficient model: The newer systems on the market today are more energy-efficient than they were even a few years ago. According to energystar.gov, replacing an old system with an ENERGY STAR system can cut your energy bill by nearly $200 annually, depending on where you live. Another incentive to replace – Chas Roberts is now offering attractive incentives on new systems from leading air conditioning manufacturer Trane, including trade-in allowances and 0 percent financing. Also, if you’re an APS or SRP customer, you may qualify for energy rebates. APS is offering a $245 rebate for installing a new, qualifying system and SRP is offering rebates of up to $400 for new, energy-efficient system installation.
