Nomination submissions have officially closed! Thank you to everyone who nominated a family or charity in need of a new A/C unit. We will be reviewing submissions and will reach out to winners shortly. A special thank you to Carrier, Goodman and Smiley Crane for partnering with us on such a special promotion. We look forward to doing it all over again next year!
Daniel and Stephanie are a military family living in Surprise with three young children, ages 7, 3 and 1. Last fall, their three-year-old, Bethanie, was diagnosed with Leukemia. They have undergone tremendous hardship caring for her, she recently started a new, stronger chemo treatment which has been difficult on the whole family. Their home is a bit older and their A/C unit was acting up, making it difficult to get comfortable in the hot Arizona heat. Their neighbor nominated them in hopes that if they could get a new A/C unit it would give them one less thing to worry about.
Beverley is a Certified Nursing Assistant at Glencroft Center for Modern Aging, a senior living community. She has been working as a frontline worker, caring for seniors in the COVID unit. As with all health care workers over the last few months, she has been putting her life on the line for others and never complains. She ended up getting COVID and was out of work for several weeks but as soon as she recovered and tested negative, she was right back in the COVID unit helping others. Her A/C unit is extremely old and is not working at its full capacity.
Jennifer suffered a stroke at the young age of 7. Following, she endured three brain surgeries and was left paralyzed on her left side. She learned to live with only the use of the right side of her body, but life has certainly not been easy. In 2015 she was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis. She’s undergone numerous surgeries and continues to live daily with chronic pain. Jenny lives in a modest house in San Tan Valley and is not able to work. Insurance covers most expenses, but it does not cover a new A/C unit. Her A/C unit has been acting up, and she is fearful it will go out leaving her without A/C.
Tyler is a veteran from Gilbert. In late 2018 Tyler’s wife passed away suddenly. She left behind a 12-year-old daughter who Tyler adopted at a young age. Tyler is now raising this little girl as his own. Since this devastation, he has been working trying to make ends meet to support his daughter. Very much in need of a new A/C unit for their home, he priced them out but just couldn’t afford it. To his surprise, a co-worker submitted his story and nomination him. We installed Tyler’s brand new A/C unit on July 17th, 2019.
Nominated by her son in law, Mary from East Mesa is the second recipient. Mary is a 73-year-old widow who has recently taken on the responsibility of care giver to her two great grandchildren. To do so she was forced to move out from her dream home she built with her late husband and move into something more affordable. The home she bought had a very old A/C unit which went out during a few of our very hot days and she suffered with no A/C for three days. We installed Mary’s brand new A/C unit on July 24th, 2019 and now she’s enjoying her cool air!
The final winner is a local non-profit called Arms of Love Foster Care, a ministry of Arizona Baptist Children’s Services & Family Ministries (ABCS). Arms of Love fills the gap for children that age out of the foster care system but still need help. Arms of Love provides a loving home, mentors and community support to help them get on their feet and learn the necessary skills to be upstanding members of society. The house is in need of much work, including a new A/C unit so we were happy to help and installed their brand new A/C unit on July 31st, 2019.
