Chas Roberts: The Story of a Successful Family Company

More than 70 years ago, in 1942, Chas and Alice Roberts founded what is now one of the most successful HVAC companies in the southwest: Chas Roberts Air Conditioning & Plumbing. The business has been family owned and operated since day one. In the early years, sales consisted of home appliances, coolers, furnaces, air conditioners and service. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, the company grew doing retrofits of houses with coolers to air conditioners, new installations in homes and light commercial air conditioning. Chas Roberts’ son, Chuck, took over managing the company in the 1960s and provided the vision for future growth.

Residential construction began to boom in the ‘70s and new installations became a significant part of the business. By the late ‘70s, Chas Roberts had become the dominant new construction air conditioning contractor in Phoenix. The ‘80s and ‘90s brought the addition of multiple locations around the Valley and the launch of the business in Tucson.

In 1999, ownership and management of the company passed to Chuck Roberts’ children, Don Roberts and Roberta “Sissie” Roberts Shank. In 2011, Chas Roberts expanded into the commercial plumbing sector. In 2012, the company expanded into New Mexico to provide New Mexico heating and cooling service.

Today, Chas Roberts Air Conditioning & Plumbing is still run by Sissie Roberts Shank and its Phoenix air conditioning and heating services are growing. Chas Roberts provides:

  • Residential Tucson, New Mexico and Phoenix AC repair and installation services
  • Commercial and residential plumbing service
  • Light commercial HVAC design, installation and service
  • Commercial mechanical and plumbing installation

The company’s cooling and heating services don’t just stop at installation and service. Chas Roberts offers extended warranties for air conditioning systems and the company’s popular maintenance plan – the Comfort Assurance Plan (CAP). The CAP provides homeowners with regular system upkeep through two planned check-ups during that year – spring and fall. It is designed to meet or exceed all manufacturer and extended warranty requirements for system maintenance and surpasses the federal government Energy Star recommendations. CAP members also receive special discounts on repairs.
