Things to investigate when selecting a warranty:

  • How many annual maintenance visits are included?
  • Which parts of the heating and air conditioning unit are covered? The thermostats? The exhaust fans?
  • How many units do you want to have covered?
  • If you’re leaning towards a manufacturer’s warranty: how much will it cost to renew the warranty when it expires? How many years will it take to catch up to the cost of an extended warranty?
  • If you’re leaning towards an extended warranty: how many years do you intend on maintaining the residence that has your heating unit? Are you here for the long haul or just for a year or two?

Typically, an extended warranty is a good option if you are someone who likes a little extra security. A manufacturer’s warranty will only cover the main components of the unit in most situations, while an extended warranty will cover you for the time period you select, usually five or ten years. An extended warranty is far more lenient regarding terms and conditions and can usually be purchased several years after your unit was first purchased. Before you decide which is right for you, however, ask yourself how long you intend to live in your current residence and compare that with how much you estimate it will cost to maintain and repair your Phoenix heating and air conditioning system during that time.
