Families in Need Receive Free AC Systems from Chas Roberts

Phoenix, Arizona (June 22, 2012) – Chas Roberts’ Cool Play Contest awarded families in Phoenix, Tucson and New Mexico to each receive a free home air conditioning and heating system and installation. The systems were installed just in time for the brutal summer heat.

The winning families were among many nominations Chas Roberts received this year as part of their annual Cool Play AC Giveaway contest:

  • Ken and Bambi Hartman of Phoenix both have health problems and have been living without an air conditioner for seven years. The Hartmans were nominated by Ken’s co-worker who strongly believed they deserved this nomination for all of the giving they do to others. The Hartmans run the Great Dane rescue of Arizona from their home, taking care of multiple rescue dogs. The Hartmans received a Goodman brand heating and cooling system.
  • The Ortegas of Tucson have been living without a properly working air conditioner since Ms. Ortega was laid off from her job nearly two years ago. With only variable income from temporary work and no health insurance, Ms. Ortega was unable to purchase a new air conditioner for her and her two children. The Ortegas received a Carrier brand heating and cooling system.
  • Clerissa Valdez and her three young girls were the contest’s first winners ever from New Mexico. Clerissa is a single mother whose air conditioner broke three times last summer and now only has a floor fan to keep the family cool. The family was nominated by Clerissa’s father who assists the family with paying their bills each month so they can get by. The Valdez family received a Carrier brand heating and cooling system.

The Hartmans and Ortagas, of Phoenix and Tucson, also received two tickets to an Arizona Diamondbacks game.

“We received so many heartfelt and compelling nominations this year that we weren’t sure how we were going to choose the three families that would receive this prize,” said Sissie Roberts Shank, CEO of Chas Roberts Air Conditioning & Heating. “The nominations submitted on behalf of the Hartmans, Ortegas and Valdez family stood out from the pack because despite their struggles, they were all working very hard to get by.”

This is the third year Chas Roberts has sponsored this contest where the general public is invited to nominate someone in need. Winners were selected based on the story of need submitted on the online application form on ChasRoberts.com.

“From our humble beginnings 70 years ago when my grandparents started Chas Roberts Air Conditioning and Heating, we have grown into Arizona’s largest HVAC provider, thanks to the support of the communities we serve,” said Roberts Shank. “We are a family-owned and operated business that serves families in Arizona and now New Mexico too, so we truly look forward to this contest every year as a way to give back to the communities that do so much for us.”
